Johansson has created a programmable amplifier of 5 inputs VHF / UHF / FM with the ability to process more than 50 channels and use excellent filters. We tested it and we were impressed!
Johansson's Profiler Revolution 6700 is a programmable 5-input amplifier, of which we have one FM input: 88 - 108 and 4 VHF inputs: 174 - 240 / UHF: 470 - 862. The maximum frequency of 862 MHz does not mean that LTE is provided as the amplifier applies 4G / 5G / LTE automatic filtering depending on the maximum frequency used, so we have automatic selection for frequencies up to 694 MHz, 790 MHz or OFF without having to worry about the installer or you.
Also, an excellent feature of the amplifier is to measure input signals, eliminating the need for a pedometer, because as you select input channels, you can see their level in real time and you know at all times what happens when you get your antenna.
The capabilities do not stop here because you can convert any VHF / UHF channel to any other band of this band, creating your own range just as you are comfortable with or as best suited to the installation. This frequency conversion function is especially helpful with the excellent 50 dB cut-off filters on successive channels with the amplifier, which are really high-precision.
We also have AGC in real time for all multiplexes individually, and programming is extremely easy, with little need to refer to the instruction manual.
The amplifier measures 217 x 165 x 59 mm and weighs just 0.8 kg, and can be mounted on a wall for a stable professional installation. On the upper side we find the 5 inputs and one ground connection, while on the underside we have the input for the 220 V cable (supplied), an SD card input for storage and transfer of settings, and software upgrades, and then we have the central output max 113 dBμV, as well as a test output at -30 dB. On the front, we see an LCD display, as well as a rotary selector in Johansson's habit, which makes it easier to program the amplifier.
As mentioned, navigation in the menus is extremely easy and fast. With the first activation of the amplifier, we choose a country where in our case is Europe (default). Then, by pressing the rotary selector for 2 seconds, the setup menu appears, where we have the basic INPUT 1, INPUT 2, INPUT 3, INPUT 4, INPUT FM, OUTPUT, ADVANCED, LOAD SD PRESET, SAVE SD PRESET, and EXIT options. In these selections, we rotate by rotating, while for each subselect with downward pressure and rotation.
For inputs, we have PRE-AMPLI sub-options: ON / OFF, DC: OFF / 12 / 24V, and ADD CHANNEL. For the first pre-selection pre-setting, the factory setting is ON, and if an input signal is more than 80 dBμV, we can set it OFF. The DC sub-selection is set to 12 V or 24 V by the advanced settings, and we can clearly set it OFF if there are no preamplifiers for power. Finally, with the ADD CHANNEL option, we select an input channel, a conversion channel and at the same time we see its level. If we want to erase a channel due to an error or a change, press the rotary dial continuously until we see the CHANNEL DELETED message. For FM input, we can not change frequency, except gain setting between 15-35 dB.
In the basic OUTPUT option, we can adjust the level between 93-113 dBμV and the slope (Slope) from -9 to 0 dB in order to balance the cable losses at the higher frequencies if necessary.
In the ADVANCED option, we have the DC VOLTAGE settings between 12/24 V, the firmware version, the serial number, and we can format the SD card as well as upgrade the software. In the LOAD SD PRESET and SAVE SD PRESET options, as it is obvious, we store the settings on an SD card or load settings from an SD card, eg when we have to program more Profilers 6700 with the same settings.
In the test installation, we gave a signal from a UHF antenna with a 1: 4 splitter to the 4 inputs, and we switched channels as follows:
INPUT 1: CH 21-> 21, CH 22-> 23, INPUT 2: CH 27-> 25, CH 28-> CH 27, INPUT 3: CH 52-> CH 37, CH 54-> CH 42, INPUT 4: CH 30-> CH 30, CH 40-> CH 35. Where the conversion channel is the same as the original channel, no frequency conversion is performed. We also kept the pre-boost on all channels, and we did not give any direction as we did not have a pre-amplifier before Profiler. Finally, we did not need to apply slope, and as an output level we chose 95 dBμV. Note that in our area channel 28 is a few dB below channel 27 and Profiler "isolated" the two successive channels 27 & 28 with particular ease, resulting in a perfectly balanced range at the output with the desired level and excellent MER above of 34 dB that the instrument can show us..
The Johansson Profiler Revolution 6700 is an exemplary programmable amplifier, with excellent 50 dB filters in sequential channels, input level meter reading, AGC, sufficient output level at 110 dBμV for 6 mux and 113 for 1 mux, high MER, fast menu navigation and perfect balance at the exit!
