Android X96 MAX +: Android 9 Pie up to 8K

Recently, we informed you about the X96 MAX + with a multitude of powerful features, while immediately below, we quote our impressions from the respective test!

This particular TV box is based on Android 9 Pie, while it has the latest SoC AmLogic S905X3 with 4-core Arm Cortex A55 64bit processor and GPU Mali-G31. Also, in terms of memory, this version has 4 GB DDR3 RAM and 64 GB eMMC, resulting in excellent performance speeds.

Also, through Kodi we have 8K Ultra HD (7680 x 4320) and HDR + resolution for the best possible image, always depending on the content being played, while HEVC is clearly supported.

We also support AirPlay and Miracast features to display the screen of our Android / iOS devices on our TV.

Regarding WiFi, the device supports dual band 2.4 + 5 GHz, while Bluetooth 4.0 complements the communication capabilities in the best way.

Connections

The X96 MAX + features an LCD front display, which allows us to monitor several functions, such as time, HDMI & AV output status, USB status and TF Card status.

In terms of connectivity, we have HDMI 2.1, Gigabit Ethernet, S / PDIF digital audio output, IR socket, USB 3.0 port, USB 2.0 port, MicroSD slot (64 GB) and clearly 5V input for the supplied external power supply.

In the package, you will find - in addition to the X96 MAX +, the 5V power supply, HDMI cable, remote control and instructions for use.

Menu - Functions

Launcher includes all the options in a horizontal layout, while at the bottom we have direct access to Settings, WiFi, applications and the well-known Droid Settings settings.

The first line of options is: Play Store, Clock, FileBrowser, FOTA Update, Media Center, Movie Player, Settings, WebView Browser Tester, AirScreen and Youtube. The second row includes the options: AppInstaller, Droid Settings, Files, Gallery, Miracast, Music, UPDATE, KD Player, Netflix, Google.

In the option for applications, we find the following: AirScreen, AppInstaller, Droid settings, FOTA Update, FileBrowser, Google, KD Player, Media Center, Miracast, MoviePlayer, Netflix (SD / 540p), Google Play, UPDATE, WebView, YouTube, Files, Music, Clock, Settings, Gallery.

Note that you will not find the AptoideTV store pre-installed, however you can - if you wish - install it manually via an apk file.

The resolution is automatically selected depending on the TV you are using. Also note that you can - if you wish - uninstall the KD Player pre-installed version and install Kodi from the Google Play store.

Netflix cannot work in HD, due to the security level 3 of the box, while you can try different versions for manual installation via apk. The pre-installed version displays the menus in English, but with satisfactory navigation via remote control, as you can see in the corresponding video.

Our opinion

Starting at the affordable price of the X96 Max plus and taking into account the 8K capability, the improved SoC AmLogic S905X3 with 4-core Arm Cortex A55 64bit processor, comfortable 4 GB DDR3 and 64 GB eMMC RAM, Gigabit Ethernet and dual band WiFi, we can say that we have an honest Android box with very powerful features!
